IAATW RESOLUTION ON PALESTINE

Unanimously passed 25/02/2024

Introduction:

Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of Palestinians.

Since October 7th, Israel's indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals, have caused immense suffering and destruction for Gaza's population of over 2.3 million. The displacement of over 1 million people, along with the loss of more than 29,000 Palestinian lives and injuries to over 70,000 Palestinians, highlights the urgent need for action.

This 2nd International Convention of the IAATW:

Noting that:

  1. The struggle for freedom and justice of the Palestinians and the liberation of all oppressed peoples internationally are inextricably linked.

  2. There is an immediate call for a ceasefire and a demand for an immediate end to the military occupation, colonization, apartheid, dismantling of illegal settlements, the separation wall, and lifting of the blockade of Gaza.

  3. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has issued a decisive order for Israel to cease genocidal actions immediately. In its judgment, the ICJ calls upon Israel's military to halt the killing of Palestinians, end and penalise any incitement to genocide, provide emergency assistance, restore essential services to Gaza's people, and take preventive measures to halt further loss of lives and destruction. Numerous governments and companies globally have severed ties with Israel and Israeli commerce, institutions, and funding due to their refusal to be complicit. IAATW unequivocally follows suit, refusing any form of complicity in this genocide.

  4. The united call from over 30 Palestinian trade unions and professional associations to end all complicity and arms sales to Israel, particularly amidst intensified assaults and the unfolding genocide in Gaza have become more than urgent.

We therefore resolves to:

  1. In alignment with the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), this 2nd International Convention of the IAATW calls on all its affiliate members to Boycott Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex gas stations, recognizing the importance of seizing support to entities complicit in perpetuating injustices against Palestinians.

  2. Investigate and take action against app companies utilizing Israeli technology complicit in the genocide perpetrated against Palestinians. This includes platforms like WAZE and others that could be facilitating or supporting oppressive practices.

  3. IAATW will build a campaign within and beyond its organization, aiming to raise awareness, educate, and combat propaganda surrounding the Palestinian struggle. This initiative will involve engaging with other app-based transport unions to amplify demands and organize an international education day in collaboration with Workers in Palestine. The day's activities will include online meetings with Palestinian organizers, teach-ins, and workshops to provide drivers with information about the situation in Palestine. IAATW will also create and distribute stickers, leaflets, and other materials for vehicles and couriers bearing the message "Drivers for Peace / Gig Workers against Genocide," alongside the IAATW logo and the Palestinian flag to support this cause further.
