Boycott Apartheid - Serve Solidarity!

Standing in Solidarity with the People of Palestine.

The Glasgow branch of Unite Hospitality wishes to convey its unwavering support and solidarity with the occupants of Gaza and the Palestinian people during this period of unrelenting, unjustifiable, and barbaric Israeli state aggression.

We unequivocally condemn the ongoing genocide that is being carried out by the state of Israel against the Palestinian people, just as we condemn our government and its allies in the US and the EU for their complicity.

This second Nakba must be halted immediately, international law must be enforced and respected, and the siege of Gaza and the occupation of Palestine must be consigned to the dustbin of history.

On the 16th of October 2023, the Workers in Palestine (WiP) trade union coalition issued a call to action. They asked to trade unionists around the world to take material action in support of the struggle against Israeli apartheid and so, in our most recent branch meeting we voted unanimously to respond

Unite Hospitality Glasgow are proud to announce the launch of our Serve Solidarity campaign. Our campaign aims to specifically engage workers, employers suppliers and customers in our sector as we work to develop our hospitality wing of the anti-apartheid and BDS movements.

The Serve Solidarity campaign aims to provide support to hospitality workers as they organise workplace boycott of produce from companies complicit in Israeli apartheid - as per the list compiled by the BDS movement - and call on venues and suppliers across the city to boycott these companies.

Hospitality workers play a unique and central role in the social cultural and economic life of Glasgow. Not a single pint is poured, nor a single meal served or a single beat of music played. Without our express permission. We call on those in our sector to recognise this and use our collective power to maintain the city's long tradition of standing against apartheid and injustice.

Our branch represents over 2000 hospitality workers in the city, and on their behalf, we would like to reaffirm Unite Hospitality Glasgow's zero tolerance approach to bigotry and hatred at a time of escalating Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism. We remain steadfast in our opposition to both, and in the belief that an injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to protect and defend our members, as well as the wider community, in the face of bigotry of any kind.

All  Unite Hospitality members will be provided with information packs in the coming days.
